Regarding anti-bacteria sprays or gels that we must use to remain safe, there is a minimum alcohol percentage imposed. How does this fit in with the pilgrims performing Hajj/being in a state of wudu?
- Sanitising and disinfecting hand gel products must contain ethyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol or benzalkonium chloride as the main ingredient. The alcohol used for medical or personal care generally does not intoxicate (see https://sciencenotes.org/can-you-drink-hand-sanitizer/). Therefore it is permissible. - It is permitted to clean one’s hands with such a gel because synthetic alcohols (though impermissible to consume in intoxicating ways or purposes) are not impure.
